The Spring OER Reader Program was held over two days; April 11 and April 25.
Volunteers included Meg Cooper, Patty DeWitt, Pat Ember, Heather Laughman, Jamie Marucha, Becky Moats, Marie Raffl, Barb Schafer, Teri VanDerlaan, Sandra Ver Beek, Paula Whitelaw, Carol Yee and Phyllis Young.
Our volunteers included long time members, new members and soon to become members!
We read three books:
From Head to Toe by Eric Carle,
Spring is Here by Will Hillenbrand and
Reading Makes You Feel Good by Todd Parr to 11 classes within District 105 Preschool and Head Start at Ideal School in Countryside, Spring School in La Grange and Congress Park School in Brookfield. The corresponding activities included a board game, flash cards, coloring and a special game led by Patty DeWitt.
Touch your nose, touch your chin,
That’s the way this game begins.
Touch your eyes, touch your knees,
Now pretend you’re going to sneeze.
Touch your hair, touch one ear,
Touch your two red lips right here.
Touch your elbows where they bend,
That’s the way this touch game ends
Phyllis wrote to Beth Reynolds, Preschool Learning Coordinator
“…Beth, all of us appreciated your hospitality. We've never been treated so well with a special room for our use throughout the day, the coffee and Kirschbaum's. I especially appreciated your help bringing in the books with the cart first thing in the morning. You are spoiling us!”
Beth replied, “Thanks for your kind words! We are the ones who should be thanking you for the great experience our students received yesterday! My teachers had very positive comments regarding the reading program. The kids seemed to be very engaged and they loved having a book to take home!”

These are great photos. It is great to see the kids so engaged and beginning a life long love of books.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to see new members, our newest member who joined the next day and, of course, our "Old timers" This is a meaningful activity for the students and our members Thanks again to Phyllis Young and Carol Yee who organized it all and made it work
