Books & Brunch serves up literary fare
Book lovers can support their literary appetite and help the disenfranchised of DuPage County by attending Books & Brunch, the 14th annual fundraiser hosted by Assistance League of Chicagoland West on Tuesday, Nov. 9.
Three well-known authors form the nucleus of the event which raises money to purchase and fit elementary and middle school children with winter coats, provide backpacks with preliteracy materials for area Head Start sites and kitchen essentials for families leaving shelters for independent living. The group also reads to preschool and kindergarten students and provides companionship for residents of Canticle Place in Wheaton.
This year’s author lineup includes Bryan Gruley, “Starvation Lake” and “The Hanging Tree”, Cristina Henriquez, “the World in Half” and Chef Rick Tramonto, “Steak with Friends”. Honorary chair/master of ceremonies is Dick Johnson of NBC5 News.
Guests have the opportunity to chat with the authors and purchase books for signing before listening to author presentations over lunch. The event also includes a vendor boutique, a grand prize raffle from Bella Cosa Jewelers, raffle baskets and a silent auction with vacation, sports and entertainment packages
Hinsdale-based Assistance League of Chicagoland West was formed in 1995 and is one of 122 chapters in the national Assistance League, headquartered in the Los Angeles area.
Books & Brunch takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Abbington, Butterfield Road and Route 53 in Glen Ellyn. Tickets are $75. To register, go to www.ALCW.org or call (630) 321-2529.
