McDonald's Volunteers read for Operation Early Reading

McDonald's contacted ALCW in September and offered us an opportunity to utilize their volunteers during the week of November 14, their corporate week of volunteering.

Thanks to Meg Cooper, Betty Cronin and Linda Legner for attending the McDonald's Volunteer Fair in October, giving the employees an introduction to ALCW.

With Operation School Bell wrapped up and no Operation New Start needs to be met, we decided to create a special Operation Early Reading Readers Program for the McDonald’s volunteers. Our hope was to use as little ALCW woman power as possible in light of all the energy spent on Books & Brunch and OSB. We envisioned building a relationship with McDonald's that could benefit ALCW now and in the future.

I met the McDonald’s volunteers at the ALCW office Wednesday, November 16^th at 8:30 a.m. to read the book and discuss the post reading activity before we went to our first school. They asked about ALCW and I proudly told them about our chapter and our philanthropies. They got a better idea of ONS kitchens, the OER backpack program and OSB, following the tour of our store room. I shared the fact that the office building managers’ generosity provided an entire office to run OSB because it is such a huge project. Needless to say, they were quite impressed with ALCW.

Thanks to Marie Raffl, Maria Kim and Carol Yee for guiding me through my first OER Readers Program from book selection to scheduling and labeling the books with each child’s name.

Without the ALCW woman power, this OER Readers Program for the McDonald's volunteers would not have been the success that it was for all!
